A Bar Rescue Success Story
Bonny & Read’s is proud to share its incredible journey, which began with a transformational experience on the renowned TV show, Bar Rescue, in 2015. Formerly known as Toucan’s Oceanside Bar & Grill, the bar was facing financial hardships and on the verge of closing its doors. That’s when the dynamic host, Jon Taffer, stepped in to rescue the establishment.
The first notable change was the rebranding as Bonny & Read’s, inspired by the famous pirate duo Anne Bonny and Mary Read. In addition to the visual overhaul, the menu received a well-deserved update. Taffer worked closely with the owners, Jamie Hawkes and John Franke, to enhance the management skills and equip them with the tools needed to run a successful bar.
One factor that attracts many viewers to the show is the bartender of the bar, Kali. In the episode, Taffer praises Kali for her skills and encourages her to continue her career in bartending. Thanks to the incredible makeover gained from the show, Bonny & Read’s proudly stands as a thriving establishment, still open to welcome both loyal locals and enthusiastic tourists. Dropped in with my wife and 2 boys. It’s hot AF but the fans kept air moving and it was comfortable. The beer was cold so it didn’t matter. They have a good menu with a little of every. Chicken sandwich and the Philly Cheese Steak were fantastic. However, the chili dog was off the chain. So big I got chili and cheese all over my face and ended up eating it with a knife and fork. Great atmosphere. Definitely would recommend. Ate here with food, appetizers and drinks for just over $100.

Waitress was a little slow getting to me, I sat there a while before she came over, but I didn’t mind, the view was beautiful and it was the best burger I’ve had in a long time!! Highly recommend!

This place is fantastic. They have indoor seating, outdoor seating, Patio seating. Their servers are incredible. Tanisha was a gem. Enjoyed every minute we were at this place. This place gives off such an amazing fun vibe! They even have a few fun props outside for photos.
The food and drinks were delicious! I started out with Miami Vice and my spouse had the Pina Cola they were both really good but I would have to say the Pina Colada was better than the Miami vice. The Miami Vice (strawberry flavour was a little too syrupy for me. But would I order it again. Totally!
For lunch we shared the cheese quesadilla, House made smoked fish dip with veggies and crackers and the Alligator bites.
The cheese quesadilla was very normal which is great. The smoked fish dip had incredible flavour and very creamy. The alligator bites is always one of my favourite while in Florida. Every place seems to make them a little different and these ones stuck out as one if not the best ones. I decided to get them deep fried and they had a yummy dip. We left there so full and happy.
Wish we had another day I would have loved to had another meal here. But there is always next time.

First visit was for beer, they had a great selection. Second visit was for dinner had fried fish sandwich as good as any I’ve had Third time was shrimp & crap meat egg rolls As good as service as I’ve had any where

Our server Tristan and who we assume was the owner were fabulous! They were constantly moving around making sure everyone was happy, drinks were always full and the environment and all tables being cleared/cleaned. Very friendly, great atmosphere, and our food was good.
